We all have them. Stories of when our kids completely embarass us. Well, today was the day for Wes and I! I had Mom's group this morning and I knew I had Wes' work Fall Festival from 3-5. So, getting Preston to take a nap was not going to happen. There just wasn't enough time for him to lay down and fall asleep before it was time for us to go.
So, on the way to the festival, I'm talking to Lindsay my sister on the phone and Preston is just yelling for fun in the background. Not mad, just to annoy me. Clue number one that I should have turned the car around.
We get to the Festival and it appears that our young boy has morphed into a rocket. He started running everywhere, and I mean everywhere. He was dressed up in his ninja outfit, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. He couldn't get enough of anything. He jumped into the bounce house and even though we were nervous since he had never been in one before, he acted like he owned the place.
Then from there he ran in the big tent and, like a whirlwind, made his way to the cookies, the cupcakes and then started stealing candy from the tables. Then he starts hula-hooping and dancing. I just couldn't stop thinking that surely he will calm down....but he just kept going! He whirred by Uncle Mike and made his way back outside to the petting zoo and the ponies. Then we took him on a hayride. He decided halfway through that he didn't want to be on the hayride so he started trying to get off. Wes had to physically restrain him, while Preston was screaming at the top of his lungs. Lovely.
As he was whirling around all the different places, people just kept commenting, "boy, he has a lot of energy." Now. I don't have stupid tatooed on my forhead. I know what this means......shouldn't you medicate your son or something?? Can't you control him?? So, in punishment for his actions, we decided it was time to leave. You can imagine how well that went over. But once he calmed down, he fell asleep and is still sleeping right now!
I tell you this story only to encourage all of you parents whose kids have swallowed the crazy pill!! This too shall pass. They said the Twos were going to be terrible.....and now I truly believe them.
